Not the most appealing to the eye, but by far the best food in Waterloo.

Paulies is an affordable choice for music, pool or just a good old fashioned game of pepper with your friends. I live in Phoenix, and visit Paulies whenever I am in town. The place is large enough for all of my friends and family to meet. Saturday nights they have a band and everyone lets their hair down for a real good time.

The ambiance is top-notch, and the service very good. The food falls rather short of expectations. Cajun food should have a solid base of flavor under the heat - like too many places, Bourbon Street takes the shortcut. The steak was not worthy of its price. The crab cakes were acceptable, but the honey-mustard sauce was not a match - remoulade is the classic accompaniment for a reason. Their bar is very good, and their hurricanes are always excellent. If the food matched the decor, a night out would be worth every penny. As it is, it‘s okay for some things and just conspicuous consumption in others.
